In May of 2019 my daughter’s elementary school was renamed from Fairmount to Dolores Huerta Elementary. I volunteered to design and paint a mural across from the office of the school to commemorate the occasion. I collaborated on the concept with fellow artist, Elaina Acosta Ford. She painted the mural that is next to this one. The final piece is 8’ x8’ and includes the school’s mascot, a peregrine falcon and many elements of symbolism to the school’s culture and identity. Dolores Huerta attended the renaming ceremony where I was able to meet her and she signed my original drawing and the mural itself. One the mural she penned “Si Se Puede! Dolores Huerta”.
